Below are brief descriptions of some books and videos that Renaissance of the Heart has found helpful or of interest in our journeys. These are our views of each of the media and are not intended to be a definitive portrayal of the source.

Books

  Andrews, Ted. Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small. Woodbury, MN: Llewellyn Publications, 2006. This book includes a dictionary of animal symbolism and ways to incorporate their signs and omens into your life.

  Braden, Gregg. The Divine Matrix: Bridging Time, Space, Miracles, and Belief. Carlsbad, CA: Hay House, 2006. This is a pivotal book about the energetic matrix that exists around us. It has good explanations on quantum physics.

  Brennan, Barbara. Hands of Light: Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field. New York: Bantam Books, 1987. This is Barbara Brennan’s first book; it has excellent, understandable explanations of energy and auras. It also has lots of drawings of energetic phenomenon as Brennan sees them. It is a good foundation book.
--- Light Emerging: The Journal of Personal Healing. New York: Bantam Books, 1993. This second book of Brennan’s, expands on healing techniques and our relationships to our higher selves.

  Buhner, Stephen Harrod. The Secret Teachings of Plants. Rochester, VT: Bear & Company, 2004. While basically about plants, a large part of the book is about the electromagnetic field around us and how it affects our heart and nervous system. This book contains convincing arguments to return to plant based healing techniques.

  Chödrön, Pema. The Places that Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times. Boston: Shambhala Publications, Inc., 2001. Written from a Buddhist perspective, Pema teaches that wisdom is all around us and available. It is our resistance and blocks set in fear within that keeps us from accessing our inner peace and openheartedness. She guides the reader through simple steps to courage, acceptance, and self love.

  Church, Dawson. The Genie in your Genes. Santa Rosa, CA: Energy Psychology Books, 2007. This book presents an interesting mix between quantum biology and physics and bridges that are being made between those disciplines and alternative medicine.

  Craig, Gary. The EFT Manual. Santa Rosa, CA: Energy Psychology Books, 2008. This is Craig’s original manual of the valuable process of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which he developed. This manual gives clear explanations of how to use the body's natural stress-reduction points to heal your own issues.

  Doidge, Norman. The Brain That Changes Itself. New York: Penguin Books, 2007. This is a great book that explores the growing field of brain plasticity—the concepts that even adult brains are plastic and changeable. Doidge relates interesting, very approachable anecdotes of various pioneers in the field of brain plasticity research that illustrate what is possible in healing even the most damaged brains.

  Eden, Donna, and David Feinstein. Energy Medicine. New York: Penguin Books, 1999. The rest of the title states what this book is about…Balancing Your Body's Energies for Optimal Health, Joy, and Vitality. This book is the culmination of three decades of teaching how the body’s energy systems can be integrated.

  Egoscue, Pete. The Egoscue Method of Health through Motion. New York: Quill Press, 2001. “Modern humans move far less than our forebears did, which Egoscue claims causes muscular weakness that can affect bodily alignment. When muscle weakness causes one side of the body to bear less than its share of the weight, the resulting distortion may cause dysfunction and pain in many areas.” – Library Journal --- Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method for Stopping Chronic Pain. New York: Bantam Books, 1998. This is an excellent book to diagnose your own pains, where they are actually originating, and exercises to relieve them --- Pain Free for Women. New York: Bantam Books, 2002. Another in the Egoscue series of books designed to deal with women’s specific pain problems. **** All 3 of the Renaissance of the Heart practitioners have benefitted from using the Egoscue exercises!

  Feinstein, David, and Stanley Krippner. The Mythic Path. Santa Rosa, CA: Energy Psychology Books, 2006. This book focuses on identifying our personal myths or stories and how they impact our lives. It emphasizes journaling and dream work as a means of discovering your personal truths.

  Gerber, Richard. Vibrational Medicine: #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Systems (3rd edition). Rochester, VT: Bear & Company, 2001. This is a classic reference book on the field of energy medicine. It has gone through several revisions…must have!

  Greene, Brian. The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory. New York: W.W.Norton & Co, 2003. Dr. Greene makes quantum physics accessible for the layman. It contains many important examples of the bridges between science and alternative medicine

  The Elegant Universe. Dir(s). Maria Spiropulu, Joseph Lykken, Edward Witten, and Cumrun Vafa. Based on the book by Dr. Brian Greene. DVD. Nova 2004. This is a series of three Nova specials. These DVDs present a very accessible approach to quantum physics. The information they contain has been the basis of many discoveries in the work of Renaissance of the Heart.

  Hawkes, Joyce Whiteley. Cell-Level Healing. Hillsboro, OR: Atria Books, 2006. This is another book on the bridge between traditional science and alternative healing techniques. It includes the author’s experiences with various indigenous peoples and how that knowledge can be incorporated into healing.

  Hendricks, Gay. Learning to Love Yourself: A Guide to Becoming Centered. New York: Fireside Books, 1993. This is a classic book on the subject of loving yourself. It has undergone several reprints. The book is very accessible and highly recommended. Hendricks’ “loving yourself” technique is a useful adjunct to just about any other healing method, especially if you are stuck or things aren’t moving.

  Hendricks, Gay. Learning to Love Yourself Workbook. New York: Fireside Books, 1992. This is the companion workbook to the previously described text; it contains many good exercises to help you develop self-love.

  James, John. The Great Field: Soul at Play in a Conscious Universe. Santa Rosa, CA: Elite Books, 2007. James, a therapist, uses astronomy and biology and creates a bridge to alternative methods of healing. The book contains good examples of cultural and spiritual wisdom and combines this with interesting patient case histories.

  Kelly, Robin. The Human Antenna: Reading the Language of the Universe in the Songs of our Cells. Santa Rosa, CA: Energy Psychology Press, 2008. This book contains extensive details about the conductors in our bodies and how energy is moved through our bodies from the cellular to the macroscopic levels.

  Liberman, Jacob. Take Off your Glasses and See. New, York: Three Rivers Press, 1995. A very practical book that explains how eyesight can be improved through various insights and exercise. By following the advice in the book many people have been able to reduce their dependence or completely get rid of their eyeglasses.

  Lipton, Bruce. The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter, and Miracles. Carlsbad, C: Hay House, 2008. This book changes the way we look at biology and thought. Dr. Lipton brings a new language to the link between mind and matter. A simple, humorous and delightful book.

  MacLean, Kenneth James Michael. The Vibrational Universe. Ann Arbor, MI: Loving Healing Press, 2006. This book provides excellent examples of how the energy fields in the Universe work to influence people. It also explains how “vibrational entrainment” or peer pressure interact with our thoughts.

  McBride, Dr. Natasha Campbell. Gut and Psychology Syndrome. Cambridge, England: Medinform Publishing, 2004. Dr. Campbell-McBride elegantly lays out her theory of what she calls the gut and psychology syndrome, linking many medical problems (from depression to autism) to disruptions and disintegration of normal human gut flora. It is an excellent book to explain the importance the food we eat to maintaining a healthy gut flora and provides steps to beginning to rebuild damaged gut flora.

  McFetridge, Grant. Peak States of Consciousness: Volume 1: Theory and Applications. Hornby Island, B.C.: Institute for the Study of Peak States, 2004. This is an excellent source for explanations of triune brain theory and how the different parts of our consciousnesses hold us in our traumas. The original work of Renaissance of the Heart is based on these theories.

  --- Peak States of Consciousness: Volume 2: Acquiring Extraordinary Spiritual and Shamanic States. Hornby Island, B.C.: Institute for the Study of Peak States, 2009. This is the second in a three part series from this author. This volume is designed to be a textbook and offers much more theory for energy practitioners than the original volume.

  McFetridge, Grant and Mary Pellicer. The Whole Hearted Healing Manual. Hornby Island, B.C.: Institute for the Study of Peak States, 2004. This workbook describes the process and theory of a healing technique called Whole Hearted Healing which was developed by Dr. McFetridge. The book is co-authored by one of the founders of Renaissance of the Heart, Dr. Mary Pellicer.  

  McTaggart, Lynne. The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe. New York: Harper Collins, 2002. The author, an investigative journalist, writes about the theory of zero-point field as it is manifested in outer space down into the cellular level. Having gone through several reprints, this book is still a good read.

  --- The Intention Experiment: Using Your Thoughts to Change Your Life and the World. New York: Simon & Schuster, 2007. This book offers a description of how thoughts can be used to manifest reality and explains a series of experiments involving group intention. This book is the basis for the ongoing on-line “Intention Experiments” (2009).

  Moyers, Bill. Genesis: A Living Conversation. New York: Doubleday, 1996. This book contains a compilation of conversations with theologians, professors, writers, and those practicing in all faiths and beliefs. In these conversations the questions of Divinity, God, Myth, and the wisdom of the Book of Genesis are discussed. The text is compelling, forthright, and insightful; overall it is a very unlimiting discussion of man’s search for God and God’s search for man. --- Healing and the Mind. New York: Doubleday, 1993. Bill Moyers uses interviews with doctors and scientists from both Eastern and Western traditions to delve into the roles of thoughts and emotions in health and illness. Moyers takes us on a journey of exploration to help answer the question: “What is health”?

  Nilsson, Lennart. A Child is Born. New York: Dell, 1990. This is a classic book originally published over 40 years ago containing extensive pre-natal photographs. Many traumas are acquired during these important early developmental stages; these traumas can be healed using Renaissance of the Heart Healing techniques.

  Page, Christine. Frontiers of Health: How to Heal the Whole Person. London: Random House, 1992. Dr. Page uses her medical expertise to illuminate our understanding of disease and how it relates to spiritual growth. Explanations of the roles of chakras to pathology and spiritual unfolding are included.

 --- Spiritual Alchemy: How to Transform Your Life. London: Random House: 2003. In this book, Dr. Page offers both new and ancient perspectives on transforming our lives and our world. By honoring our innate wisdom and connecting with traditions new and old, we can move ourselves into a deeper connection with Mother and begin to answer the question: “Who am I?”

  Phillips, Maggie; Reversing Chronic Pain. Berkeley, CA: North Atlantic Books, 2007. This book is about a specific, practical approach to relieving chronic pain. It contains lots of very useable techniques.

  Primack, Joel R., and Nancy Ellen Abrams. The View from the Center of the Universe. New York: Riverhead Books, 2006. With a blend of spirituality, cosmology, archeology, science and mathematics, the authors strive to convey simple answers to the questions of the Universe: “What is time?”, “Who are we?”, and “What is our place within the cosmos?” They argue that we are all an integral part of our Universe and it is part of us—billions of years floating within our present concept of time. They explain how we are given an opportunity to explore symbols, myth, and ancestry on the road to finding what our personal truths are.

  Psaris, Jett, and Marina S Lyons. Undefended Love. Oakland, CA: New Harbinger Publications, 2000. This is an excellent book on describing how to create relationships based on openness and sharing. It has many guided self-inquiries and exercises which makes this a very practical book.  

  Radin, Dean. Entangled Minds: Extraordinary Experiences in a Quantum Reality. New York: Paraview, 2006. Author, Dean Radin, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, details the ongoing research that is being done to investigate many types of psi experiences. This is a well written and approachable introduction to a little known corner of scientific research.

  Ramachandrian, V.S. and Sandra Blakeslee. Phantoms in the Brain. New York: Quill, 1998. Dr. Ramachandran is one of the foremost authors on brain plasticity. He has worked to uncover answers to how our brain works, why we become depressed, why we believe in God, and why we laugh when we are sad. He bridges the gaps between neuroscience, psychology and modern medicine. The book contains interesting case reviews of patients with various brain injuries and how their brain maps can be re-written.

  Spalding, Baird T. Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East. Camarillo, CA: DeVorss Publications, 1964.This is a six volume set of the writings of Baird Spalding. It details how his team of scientists studied psychic phenomena in India in the late 1800s. The book gives many accounts of time travel and spiritual healings. This series has been a source of many discoveries in the work of Renaissance of the Heart.

  Walsh, Roger. The World of Shamanism, New Views of an Ancient Tradition. Woodbury, MN: Llewellyn Publications, 2007. Dr. Walsh details traditional shamanism as viewed by modern medicine. This is an excellent sourcebook coming at a time when Western culture is at a crossroads of change.
